Philosophy and Art
Okay, so, I went to view the faculty art work, and the entire collection was wonderful of course, but being as I hold photography close to my heart, this is what drew me in. The photography was done by Craig Coleman and entitled "Regularity in the Midst of Chaos." The photos were everday images of this location absent of any sort of unnatural ocurrences, but still there was beauty there. In the philosophy world, there has been debates on whether 'ordinary images' such as these can be considered art, and I say YES, (AYN RAND), YES THEY CAN!

Why do you think Coleman titled the piece "Regularity in the Midst of Chaos?" Does the art suggest anything about the nature of chaos?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about the nature of chaos, but for me, the focus fell upon the regularity. The world is in a constant rush, and everything and everyone is in disarray; however, this is what society deems as normal, or regular behavior. If one spots a person walking slowly in the mist of a busy crowd, one automatically deems that person's behavior as strange and irregular; however, one ignores the frantic lady that is trying to chase down a cab because she is late for work or the man that is running full speed almost knocking down everyone in his path to get to the bus stop before the bus pulls away, and one ignores this because this is what society calls a regular day.
